On the morning of November 5th, Dr. Liu Jin, director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Department and Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of the Ministry of Education, paid a visit to USST. President Ding Xiaodong, Vice President Cai Yonglian, chief administers of the relevant departments and representatives of teachers and students joined in the talks.
Liu Jin and her entourage visited Learning Resources Center, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, “Starry Ink” workshop, “Actor” workshop and “RoboVigor” Robotics Lab. They were deeply impressed by SBC students with their fluent English presentations and fantastic robot demonstration. The silver medalists, in the 5th China “Internet +” College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and the winner of “Favorite Project” in the 12th China Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship made a joint presentation to the guests. Director Liu spoke highly of the achievements that SBC students made in the innovation and entrepreneurship competition.
President Ding Xiaodong briefed the guests on the new concepts of Sino-foreign joint programs, new measures to win international professional accreditation and new direction of internationally-oriented education. Then a video clip titled “Focusing on three key aspects of education to foster academic competitiveness” demonstrated the new progress and achievements from the three key aspects of responsibility and leadership, entrepreneurship and innovation, and cultural similarity. Professor Liu Qin, executive deputy dean of SBC made a presentation to the guests on such aspects as education targets, talents cultivation, disciplinary construction, faculty recruitment, international exchange and the future blueprint.
Dr. Liu showed her full appreciation upon the international-oriented educational ideas, academic features and achievements of USST. She noted that with a long history of international collaboration, SBC insisted on its unique one-Chinese-university-with-multi-international-partners administrative pattern. She also remarked that though in the past, she had sketchy ideas of SBC from her reading, this visit had deepened her understanding of the international joint program of SBC. She spoke highly of the international joint program with its focus on international perspective, cultural diversity, elite-oriented education. She pointed out that the Ministry of Education had been formulating the policy of stepping up and expanding the opening up of education and would make further efforts and take innovative measures to deepen the opening up of education, and cultivate internationally oriented trans-disciplinary talents. She hoped that SBC would continue to improve its international joint program, learn from past experiences to be a model in international joint education, and to make due contributions to the opening up of education of our country.
