Zhang Yuling Volunteers as a Drop of Anti-virus Ocean in Hubei

What can ordinary teachers from Shanghai universities contribute to the epidemic prevention and control in Hubei Province? Zhang Yuling from Department of Physical Education at USST answered this by arranging over 60 patients in hospital and raising alcohol and other medical materials for hospitals in Hubei.
Since the start of the epidemic, there has emerged a great demand for alcohol, during which Zhang Yuling began to take actions with two other friends at the end of January. On one hand, they raised funds with the help of their own friends. On the other hand, they selected alcohol and the alcohol producers, and determined the quantity and transport routes. “Because roads were all locked down and the situation was changing, it took some time to get permits and contact the four drivers who could cover a distance of 3000 miles to send materials to epidemic areas.” On February 10th, trucks loaded with 23 tons of alcohol finally started from the alcohol production base in Haozhou, Anhui and were rushed to 15 hospitals of different sizes.
Before other provinces and cities rescued Hubei Province, medical materials were in high demand. Around the Spring Festival, another important task for Zhang Yuling was to help patients to “find beds”. He collected messages from different areas and confirmed them by making calls. Zhang Yuling sorted out 60 help seekers’ names, conditions, demands and contacts. She contacted volunteers from the USST Alumni Association, helped the patients to find certain hospitals as soon as possible. When she made calls to help seekers, apart from consulting about their health and with their families, Zhang patiently chatted with them and relieved their anxieties. In a Wechat platform, Zhang Yuling changed his nickname into her real name plus her phone number so that help seekers could contact her at all times.
“Usually Zhang is ardent, and regularly leads students to carry out voluntary work in the community. What she did during the epidemic was within my expectations,” said Weng Liju when she learned of this. Millions of volunteers like Zhang Yuling rushed into the mighty torrent against the epidemic, and became a formidable force to win against the epidemic.
