From November 10 to 17, Mr. Wang Lingyu, Secretary of Party Committee, led a delegation to visit Austria and Spain, and visited Medizinische Universität Wien,Technische Universität Wie, National Academy of Sciences of Spain, General Hospital of Barcelona, University of Pompeu Fabra, and Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña. Relevant persons in charge of the Institute of Science and Technology Development, School of Optical-Electronic and Computer Engineering, School of Materials and Chemistry and International Affairs Office accompanied the delegation.
During their stay in Austria, the delegation first visited Medizinische Universität Wien and had a meeting with Prof. Wolfgang Drexler, Director of the Center for Medical Physics and Biomedicine of the university, and his research team. The two sides had a thorough discussion on topics such as collaborative research in the cross-cutting fields of medicine and engineering, and resource input for the integration of industry and education, and reached a positive consensus on the promotion of international cooperation in similar disciplines. Medizinische Universität Wien has the largest number of medical students of any German-speaking university. With a history dating back to 1365, it is a research-oriented university featuring medical-related disciplines, including clinical medicine, internal surgery, immunology, neuroscience, oncology and other fields.
Invited by Ernst Woller, the First Speaker of the City of Vienna, the USST delegation visited the Vienna City Hall and was warmly welcomed and hosted. Ernst Woller said that China is a very important partner of Austria, and that China and Austria have in-depth cooperation in scientific and technological innovation and business investment, and he will make efforts to promote the international cooperation between our university and the universities and research institutes in Vienna. Mr. Wang Lingyu expressed his gratitude to the Speaker and introduced the development history, international cooperation, scientific and technological transformation, and the development of disciplines of our university.
In addition, the delegation was invited to attend the Sino-Austrian International Industry-University-Research Cooperation Seminar, and Wang Lingyu delivered the opening speech. More than 30 representatives from 10 universities, research institutions and enterprises attended the seminar to discuss and promote the further development and cooperation between China and Austria in the field of high technology, including the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Transportation, Innovation and Technology (BMK), the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), the Vienna University of Applied Sciences, the European Automotive Research Partnerships Association(EARPA), Eurosolar European Renewable Energy Association, the Suxitong Sino-Austrian Science and Technology Park Sutong (Sino-Austrian Sutong Eco-Park), and the European Association for International Cultural Exchanges and Cooperation (EAICC).
Mr. Wang Zhongcheng, Science and Technology Counselor of Science, Education and Culture Department of the Chinese Embassy in Austria, attended the meeting and warmly welcomed the delegation to Vienna. He introduced in detail the scientific and technological, cultural and economic exchanges between China and Austria, and hoped that USST could combine the needs of both sides and promote in-depth cooperation in the fields of education, science and technology, and talents cultivation in a mutually beneficial and win-win manner. During the meeting, the members of our delegation fully demonstrated the university's scientific research strength in the fields of optoelectronic information, biomedical engineering and materials chemistry. During the meeting, many parties reached a preliminary cooperation intention on actively promoting international joint scientific research in the future.
During the visit to Technische Universität Wie, the delegation met with Prof. Marko Mihovilovic, Dean of the Faculty of Technical Chemistry and Director of the Research Center for Bioorganic Synthesis Chemistry, Academician Andrius Baltuška, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, and personals from related departments to hold an in-depth discussion. The two sides reached a positive consensus on the development of joint cultivating programs and cross-platform international scientific research cooperation in the fields of optical-Electronic information, biomedical engineering, materials chemistry, and the strengthening of short-term exchange programs for students and cooperation at graduate student level.
Accompanied by Academician Andrius, the delegation visited the Photonics Experiment Center, Automation and Control Experiment Center and Circuit Engineering Experiment Center of the university.
During its stay in Spain, the delegation first visited the Spanish National Academy of Sciences (CSIC), where Vice Dean Isabel Diaz, Academician David Ríos Insua, Director of the Center for Automation and Robotics, and other officials warmly hosted the delegation, focusing on the mechanism of exchanges and cooperation between the two sides. Both sides expressed the hope that on the basis of the signed Memorandum of Cooperation between the two universities, they could deepen the cooperation in international innovative scientific research project cooperation, joint cultivation of graduate students and other aspects, and continuously promote international academic exchanges. The delegation also expressed the positive will to invite many scientists from the Spanish National Academy of Sciences to carry out scientific research and teaching in our university.
The delegation visited Hospital de Sant Pau of the University of Barcelona, where Abdel Hakim Moustafa, director of the Dimension Laboratory, warmly welcomed the delegation to the university, introducing the laboratory's successful cases of 3D modeling technology, digital twin technology and 3D printing technology in the field of customized healthcare, and emphasizing the significant advantages of the technological innovation brought by the intersection of medicine and industry in promoting the combination of clinical expertise and cutting-edge technology. The two sides made in-depth exchanges on future academic cooperation in the medical field and reached a consensus on actively promoting the exchange of students and faculty.
During the visit to Universidad Pompeu Fabra, the delegation met with Vice-Rector Helena Ramalhinho Lourenço, Prof. Federico Mateo Sukno, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Prof. Oscar Camara, Director of the Department of Engineering, and had a thorough discussion with them. The two sides made full exchanges on the development of the university in recent years, and carried out in-depth communication around continuing to promote the joint construction of disciplines of the two universities, the exchange of students, and actively carry out joint scientific research and talent cultivation, and will work together to promote the signing of a new round of cooperation agreements. Universidad Pompeu Fabra is one of the most internationalized universities in Spain and will be a new partner university of USST in 2024. In terms of scientific research, the university provides multidisciplinary research service teams for enterprises and organizations, and has built the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park, the Barcelona Media Park, and the Pompeu Fabra University Research Park. It is the large-scale training, research and production bases in the field of biomedicine.
Finally, the delegation visited Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña. The university is the most prestigious engineering university in Spain and one of the first-class engineering universities in Europe, specializing in talent cultivation and scientific research in the field of engineering and technology. The delegation was warmly received by Lourdes Reig Puig, Vice-President of the Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña, Helena Martinez, Director of the International Affairs Sction, and Wang Yu, Head of the Chinese Affairs Department. Both sides introduced the history, development, international cooperation and academic construction of their respective universities, and discussed further cooperation in international summer schools, faculty visits and student exchanges.
