From February 3 to 6, President Zhu Xinyuan led a delegation to Thailand to carry out a series of cooperation and exchange activities with the National Science and Technology Development Agency of Thailand, Mahidol University, Chulalongkorn University, Thai Red Cross Rehabilitation Center and other institutions, and visited the Chinese Embassy in Thailand. Relevant personnel from the Science and Technology Development Research Institute, Local Cooperation Office and College of Health Sciences and Engineering accompanied the visit. The visit made breakthrough progress in academic exchanges, scientific research cooperation and international education development with Thai scientific research institutions and related universities, and injected a strong impetus for the university's internationalization development.
On February 3, the delegation first visited Mahidol University, where Vice President Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti and relevant department heads attended the meeting. The two sides exchanged views on academic exchanges, joint cultivation of students and other programs, exploring more possibilities for cooperation, and striving to achieve resource sharing and mutual progress in the fields of specialized subjects. Both sides expressed their affirmation of past cooperation and expectations for future joint progress. Afterwards, the delegation visited the Department of Biomedical Engineering in the College of Engineering of the university, and discussed the promotion of student exchange and joint cultivation programs as well as research cooperation in the field of intelligent rehabilitation engineering, laying a good foundation for subsequent substantive cooperation.

On February 4, the delegation visited the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) of Thailand and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sukit Limpijumnong, Director General of NSTDA, on the establishment of the Belt and Road Joint Laboratory. The cooperation will focus on the construction of an international joint laboratory in the field of intelligent rehabilitation engineering, promote research cooperation and technology exchange between the two sides in the fields of rehabilitation engineering, geriatric care and robotics, and promote the development and application of research results in a number of fields. In addition, the delegation visited the laboratories of several technology centers, including the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC) and the Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), and listened to the introduction of relevant research results.


On the morning of February 5, the delegation visited Chulalongkorn University and was received by Prof. David Banjedponchai, Vice Dean of School of International Exchange, Faculty of Engineering. The delegation also visited the Rehabilitation Robotics Laboratory of the Faculty of Engineering, where Prof. Viboon Sangveraphunsiri received the delegation and introduced the research results of rehabilitation robotics, and the two sides had in-depth exchanges and discussions on possible directions of cooperation in the future, laying the groundwork for subsequent cooperation.
In the afternoon of the same day, the delegation visited the Chinese Embassy in Thailand and had a discussion with the Science and Technology Counselor, Mr. Ma Minggeng. During the meeting, Zhu Xinyuan introduced the important progress of the university in recent years and its comprehensive advantages in the field of intelligent rehabilitation engineering, as well as the establishment of the “One Belt, One Road” Laboratory with the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) of Thailand. Counselor Ma Minggeng affirmed the development of the university's characteristics in the field of rehabilitation engineering, and hoped that the university could further promote the scientific research cooperation with relevant Chinese and Thai universities and research institutes in this field, and seize the opportunity of the construction of the international joint laboratory to further deepen the all-round cooperation with Thailand, so as to pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand this year.

On February 6, the delegation visited the Rehabilitation Center of Thai Red Cross, and was warmly welcomed by Krisna Piravejj, Director of the Center, and the two sides discussed the future research cooperation and reached a preliminary intention. The delegation also visited various rehabilitation clinics to gain a better understanding of the rehabilitation treatment process and the construction of rehabilitation facilities, which provided more ideas for possible cooperation.

The delegation's visit to Thailand not only strengthened in-depth exchanges and cooperation with Thai universities, research institutes and related organizations, but also opened a new chapter of cooperation with the Thai side in the field of intelligent rehabilitation engineering, which is of positive significance to the enhancement of the university's internationalization level, the promotion of the transformation of scientific research achievements and international academic cooperation.
