January 20, 2025

Recently, the fifth season of "My Favourite Shanghai" youth English short video collection and showcase awards ceremony came to a successful conclusion. This event was jointly produced by the International Communication Office of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism and Shanghai Media Group (SMG), hosted by SMG International, co-hosted by the Shanghai World Expo Museum, and jointly planned by the Office of Shanghai Chronicles and the Shanghai Urban Planning and Design Research Institute.
At the awards ceremony, a total of 10 awards were presented, including the Most Popular Work Award, Best Creative Production Award, Best Script Award, Annual Best Short Video Award, and Best Organisation Award. The Sino-British College was honoured with Best Organisation Award for actively building a platform for cultural exchange between Chinese and international students by organising SBC International Summer School and cross-cultural experience activities, effectively broadening students’ international perspectives, fostering international friendships, and enhancing cultural confidence.

This event collected nearly 2,000 videos and featured a special review panel composed of 28 international students from 19 countries. The international students from SBC, along with other student representatives from Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, East China Normal University, Tongji University, and other institutions, participated in the review process, making their contribution to the event.

SBC has always been committed to cultivating students' cross-cultural competencies and innovative thinking in science and technology. This year, the College organised an international summer school themed "Cross-Cultural Fusion: Crafting the Future with Tech and Business," which attracted 15 students from partner universities in five countries and received unanimous praise from them and their lecturers. The program included academic courses, cutting-edge technology lectures, innovation and entrepreneurship project incubation, visits to leading enterprises, and experiences of Chinese traditional culture and urban landscapes. Chinese and international students collaborated on innovative projects, which were showcased at the third "Liverpool in Shanghai Culture Day." International participants gained a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and the stories of Shanghai. Luka Kokhanov, a SBC international student and one of the international student review panel members, shared excitedly, "Participating in the review process of this event, I learned about a lot of new places that I haven't visited in Shanghai yet and also got to know how the kids in Shanghai see the city through their eyes in a more authentic way. It made me realise what a close community people have in the city and feel their love for life and their hometown. At SBC, I have accessed high-quality educational resources and participated in various activities that allowed me to experience traditional Chinese culture. I really like the city and the people."
This event highlights SBC's strong emphasis on fostering students' cross-cultural abilities and innovative thinking in science and technology. Moving forward, the College will continue to uphold the three overarching themes of Responsible Leadership, Enterprise and Innovation and Cultural Empathy, contributing to the cultivation of international talents and the mutual appreciation of Chinese and foreign cultures. The College aims to further elevate the quality of Sino-foreign cooperative education to new heights.
