New Development in Medical-engineering Interdisciplinary Work

On Nov 20, president Ding Xiaodong, vice president Liu Ping and some heads from science and technology department, the research institute of collaborative innovation, graduate school and other colleges went to the Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University of Medicine and the Renji Hospital for medical-engineering interdisciplinary work. Wu Tao, deputy secretary of Party Committee of SJTUSM and deputy dean of SJTUSM and other related department heads joined in the talks.

At the exchange meeting with the Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital, Wu Hao outlined the history, scientific research, outstanding talents and professional characteristics of the Ninth People’s Hospital. He noted that the hospital is proactively pushing ahead the construction of the research-oriented hospital. The medical-engineering interdisciplinary base has been finished in terms of its clinical medicine, research & development, manufacturing where many teams constantly break through. He put that innovation is an important path for a hospital to transform itself. The development of future medicine cannot run away from applied technology. Medical-engineering interdisciplinary work will be an important trend in the development of medicine, contributing to great chances of collaboration between schools and hospitals. President Ding Xiaodong gave a brief introduction to the background and significance of the medical-engineering interdisciplinary platform. He said that USST specializes in manufacturing with such 5 subjects as optical engineering as its superior ones. It has close relationships with clinical medicine and can provide a technological basis for medical-engineering interdisciplinary collaboration. The final aim of medical-engineering interdisciplinary collaboration is to contribute to the well-being of people and joint construction of the Chinese dream. Afterwards, vice president Liu Ping gave introductions to the latest work of medical engineering interdisciplinary innovation research institute (graduate school) since its establishment.

In the afternoon, the delegation of USST went to Renji Hospital for medical-engineering interdisciplinary work. Before the meeting, led by Dai Huili, deputy dean of Renji Hospital, the delegation paid a visit to tumour research and development base. At the exchange meeting, Li Weiping, dean of Renji Hospital, noted that the hospital has established the centre for molecular imaging and expected to carry out further collaboration with USST in such aspects as optics and imaging and promote the communication in talents cultivation. President Ding Xiaodong outlined the history, superior characteristic subjects of the medical-engineering interdisciplinary platform. He also pointed out that USST has provided support and guarantee for the smooth development of medical-engineering interdisciplinary work.

This visit is a significant step for advancing medical-engineering interdisciplinary work of medical-engineering interdisciplinary innovation research institute. USST has established a preliminary relationship with these two hospitals, which provided a fined basis for the coming medical-engineering collaboration and convenience for the second batch of medical-engineering projects.
