Recently, Gary Millar, Vice Mayor of Liverpool paid a visit to USST. Vice president of USST, Dr. Chai received the guests and leaders from International Affairs Office and SBC (Sino-British College) joined in the talks.
Dr. Cai extended warm welcome to Gary Miller and other guests from Liverpool. She briefed the guests on the history of USST, its education targets, international exchange programs and joint program with British universities and agencies. Dr. Cai also noted that USST worked together with John Moores University of Liverpool to on two international programs— Electrical Information Science and Technology, and Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation. In June, both signs a new agreement in hopes of seeking more cooperation in more academic fields. She pointed out that this year is the 20th anniversary of establishing sister city relationship between Shanghai and Liverpool. This is a good opportunity to better the relationship between universities in Shanghai and Liverpool, and enhance the academic cooperation between Shanghai and Liverpool to a new height.
Gary Miller said that he felt honored to have been invited to visit SBC and gave sincere thanks to USST for the warm reception. He presented a brief introductions to the city of Liverpool and its local Chinese festivals and cultural activities and expressed his sincere wish that more Chinese students could visit and study in Liverpool. He pointed out that Shanghai is a city of vigor, vitality and passion and is his second hometown. Since our sister city relationship in 1999, Liverpool has sought cooperation with Shanghai in many field such as culture, education and trade and are expecting to further our cooperation in more fields, so as to play an important role in the development of Sino-British relation.
Garry Miller knew a lot about many cities in China. When talking with students, he would usually introduce his hometown—Edinburg and the soccer team Liverpool and Liverpool’s metropolitan cultures. Julia Wang, Director of China Strategies of Johns Moores University, gave a detailed orientation on disciplinary competitiveness, academic features and summer session program.
Accompanied by Professor Liu Qin, executive deputy dean of SBC, Gary Miller visited Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center and Learning Resource Center. They participated in the activities in Starry Ink Workshop, “Actor Workshop, Robovigor Lab. They also visited “1195” alumni house. The visit ended with a talk and picture session as Gary Miller met with faculty members and students of SBC.
