Three Municipal Platforms of Technology Innovation Approved

Recently, with the approval of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission and the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, the three platforms of the School of Medical Instrument and Food Engineering of USST became municipal-level platforms of technology innovation. The Shanghai Low Temperature Biomedical Technology Platform was listed among the Shanghai Research and Development Public Service Platform of 2018, the Shanghai Intervention Medical Device Engineering Research Center was approved as one of the Shanghai Engineering Centers of 2018, and the Medical Device Engineering Experiment Teaching Center was listed among the Demonstration Centers of Experiment Teaching of 2018.

The Shanghai Low Temperature Biomedical Technology Platform will form an industrial technology platform for the well-balanced development of guidance, demonstration, enhancement and transmission through the serialization and integration of low temperature preservation technology, professional service, as well as industrialization promotion and guidance. It aims at the establishment of a high quality and large sample biomedical resource bank to improve the implementation of the national precision medical strategy.

The goal of Shanghai Intervention Medical Device Engineering Research Center is to integrate the key technologies of processing interventional medical devices and their products, to build an evaluation system for the function of intervention medical devices, and to form an innovative platform for technology development and industrial application.

The Medical Device Engineering Experiment Teaching Center takes training innovative and applied medical device talents as its core task and breaks through the theoretical training mode of biomedical engineering major. The four characteristics of the center are: 1) with an integration of medication, engineering, and technology, focusing on the cultivation of students’ practical skills; 2) with a simulation of hospital environment, enhancing the outcome of experiment teaching; 3) with an integrated service platform, increasing the proficiency of experiment teaching; and 4) with promotion of the building of school-enterprise joint laboratory, improving conditions of experiment teaching.

The three platforms will play a great role in accelerating the construction of first-class disciplines, promoting the gathering of high-quality resources and supporting the training of high-quality talents. Seizing such an important opportunity, the faculty of the School of Medical Instrument and Food Engineering will take the construction of high-level university as the lead to connect with the major development strategies of Shanghai and the nation, accelerate their construction of first-class discipline platform to bring about even better undergraduate education.
