The laboratory for the team constitutes an important part of the “Shanghai Key Laboratory of Modern Optical Systems”, “the Center for Optical Instruments and Systems Engineering of the Ministry of Education” and “International Joint Innovation Laboratory of Terahertz Technology”. It has 300m² of class 10000 and class 1000 super cleanroom, Terahertz network analyzer, Terahertz probe station, Terahertz quantum cascade laser, scanning electron microscope, lithography machine, inductive coupling plasma etching machine, Terahertz near field test system and Terahertz spectrum testing system.

Ongoing projects

National Key Basic Research Program of China  (973 Program):

Basic research on active Terahertz imaging system and its application.

Special Projects of the National Key Scientific Instrument Foundation

High sensitivity Terahertz detectors and array components;

Development of Terahertz time-domain spectrometer based on femtosecond lasers -Terahertz functional components;

Development of a new generation of dangerous goods analysis and detection instruments based on Terahertz technology.

In terms of Terahertz source, the project team has undertaken 14 national-level projects, including 1 project of National Key Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), 5 special projects for the National Key Foundation for Exploring Scientific Instrument, 5 projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China and 3 projects of Shanghai Natural Science Fund, with total amount exceeding 35 million yuan. The team has published 26 high-level papers, including 5 in sub journals of Nature and 10 in SCI Tier 1. The total number of papers cited has reached 800. The key point of team member construction is development of Keysight-USST Joint Terahertz Laboratory and Terahertz Technology Innovation International Joint Laboratory

In the previous research, we carried out research on Terahertz basic theory, related devices and Terahertz application systems. e.g.:

1. Terahertz surface excimer mode splitting theory research;

2. Terahertz components: carried out research based on fem to second laser pumping broadband Terahertz radiation source, as well as various types of core devices such as Terahertz absorbers, filters, ultra-thin imaging and logic gates;

3. Terahertz systems based on key core devices: Based on the above sources and functional devices, the project application team independently developed a product of time domain Terahertz spectrum system. It was applied to the detection of swill-cooked oil and won the Excellent Exhibition Award of the 14th China International Industry Fair.

The team has invested heavily in the direction of instrument development. At present, it has Terahertz swill-cooked oil detection equipment (parameter: signal-to-noise ratio 65dB), Terahertz near-field scanning device (parameter: spectral width 0.05-1.5THz, spatial resolution 0.2μm, signal-to-noise ratio 40dB, sampling time interval 50ms, spectrum resolution 15GHz). All of them meet the technical parameters of similar products in the world. The related products have been sold overseas, such as Pakistan and domestic universities, producing good economic and social benefits. The team has transferred or licensed three patents, with a total funding of 28.68 million yuan.
