Laboratory of Strength and Reliability Evaluation for Automobile Parts in the Machinery Industry

Formerly known as the Vehicle Strength Laboratory established in 2001, the "Key Laboratory of Strength and Reliability Evaluation for Automobile Parts in the Machinery Industry" at USST, was officially established in July 2010 with the approval from the China Machinery Industry Federation (CMIF). Currently, among its faculty and as members of its academic committee are 7 professors, 12 associate professors and senior engineers, and 21 senior domestic and international experts at automotive engineering. The laboratory has a floor space of 1260m2, with more than 30 sets of testing equipment and 5 sets of large-scale professional commercial software. The laboratory is oriented to undertake scientific research and provides technical service for the entire industry. The focus of the lab is mainly on basic theoretical research on the strength and reliability of whole vehicles and vehicle parts, and on the development of relevant standards and specifications. It also does independent R&D research on testing and evaluation equipment, and provides technical support to boost automotive reliability, durability and overall performance. In recent years, it has engaged in more than 40 major and key research projects, some of which are national or provincial projects and key technological research projects in cooperation with many enterprises. It has been issued more than 30 national invention patents and software copyrights. In addition, many of its research achievements have reached an international advanced level, and it has repeatedly won provincial and ministerial Technology Advancement Awards.

The laboratory also boasts a Sino-US Automotive Reliability Joint Research Center and is in partnership with the Automotive Reliability Technology Committee of China Society of Automotive Engineers (CSAE) and the Automotive Reliability Committee of Shanghai Automotive Engineering Society (SAES).
