The First Student Lecturer Qualification Competition Held in USST

On the morning of December 26, the final of the first Student Lecturer Qualification Competition, on the theme of “New Age, Newer China”, was held in the school auditorium. 18 teams from 15 schools or colleges competed for five sets of lecturer seats.

Centering around the themes of “Future Optics”, “Brilliant Night, Beautiful China”, “Medical Instruments in Newer China”, “Drawing China: Behind the Figures”, and “Words from Youth in the Newer China” respectively, the five teams, of the School of Optical-electrical and Computer Engineering, the School of Environment and Architecture, the School of Medical Instrument and Food Engineering, the College of Science, and the School of Marxism, displayed the differences in contributions their majors have made to the new era. Based on the features and values of their majors, participants described the beauty, evolution as well as the contributions of their majors. After fierce competition, the teams of the School of Environment and Architecture and the School of Medical Instrument and Food Engineering won the first prizes, and the teams of the School of Optical-electrical and Computer Engineering, the College of Science, and the School of Marxism won the second prizes. Meanwhile, the team of the School of Medical Instrument and Food Engineering won the most popular team award after online voting.

Li Xin, a leader in the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, made a speech after the competition. He said that it is a demonstration of their obligation and responsibility for student lecturers, with a basis on their own majors, the reality of the school, and the present situation, to talk about life philosophy and principles of social development in simply-worded stories. He put forward three hopes: the first is to have lofty ideals and to be patriotic, and to combine personal ambition with the development of the country. The second is that students should strive to increase their talents through hard work and diligent study. The third is that students should carry forward the spirit of acting as a doers and strivers. Answering the call of the times, we should be responsible and steadfast in our work and lives, so that the future will be even more colorful.
