2019 Graduate Student Commencement Held at USST

On the morning of April 12, the USST graduate student commencement was held at the Sports Center on the Jungong Road Campus. The ceremony was presided over by Vice President of USST, Professor Liu Ping.

The ceremony began with a music video titled: “Hello and Goodbye” made by students exclusively for this occasion. The video summarized their three years of graduate student life, and ended with a dream-come-true blessing to all the graduates. The ceremony officially commenced with the playing of the National Anthem. Sheng Chun, Deputy Party Secretary and the Vice President of USST, read the final list of the graduates. The whole ceremony was immersed in a warm atmosphere. The graduates were in high spirits and walked onto the stage in turn and received their diplomas from top administrators and the academicians. The moment is worthy of being remembered for a lifetime. It also epitomizes that their lives on campus came to a successful end, thus they embark on a new chapter in their lives.

Zhou Kunguang, a graduate and Chairman of the 20th Graduate Student Union of USST, was invited to deliver a speech. During his speech, he expressed his gratitude to his Alma Mater and his professors. He reminded his fellow students of the importance of holding fast to the creed of “being learned and devoted, erudite and committed”, the importance of understanding that “an individual may go fast, but a team can go further.”, and the importance of down-to-earth spirits in practice and honesty and integrity in character. Professor Zheng Jihong, a guest speaker from School of Optical-Electrical and Computer Engineering, USST, expressed her sincere wish during her speech that “may our university motto of be honest, loyal, diligent and philanthropic; be committed to learning and be ambitious” always be followed by the graduates.
President Ding Xiaodong delivered a speech on the title of "Forge Ahead in the New Era, Always be a Dream-seeker". He first congratulated the students on their graduation, and expressed his thanks and respect to the faculty and staff and the parents who offered the students their unconditional and unreserved support. He wished that all the graduates would have a successful future. He encouraged the graduates to be dream seekers with their dreams as their guide; to be philanthropic dream seekers with the sublime morality as their belief, to be accomplished dream seekers with the spirit of tenacity and perseverance as their approach. He shared with the graduates the legendary academic journey of two science giants, academician Lin Zonghu and academician Zhuang Songlin, and urged all the graduates to seek their dreams. And USST is the place where the dream starts.
The ceremony ended with more than 2,400 graduates in a chorus of the school song. They made a promise to meet again on campus a decade later.
