Confronted with the novel coronavirus, USST students take various measures to engage themselves in epidemic prevention and control and write a chapter under the name of youth.
During winter holiday, Li Yi, an undergraduate who majors Vehicle Engineering, returned to his hometown: Shiyan City, Hubei Province, but encountered the novel coronavirus epidemic that swept across the country, making Hubei Province the hard-hit region. Not only did he take preventive measures, but also he took part in voluntary work in the community. What Li Yi did was to strictly follow the work system and process, and check and register personnel and vehicles that got into and out of the community, take temperatures, give out epidemic leaflets, suggest community residents wear masks, and take preventive measures. Li Yi still actively moved daily necessities provided by the government to many community residents.
Wang Yanti, a 2019 student from the School of Marxism, is from Silongzhuang Village, Fangcheng County, Nanyang City, Henan Province. Since the beginning of January 31th, she has been devoted to the war of epidemic prevention with two other students who also returned to their hometown during the winter holiday. She recorded data on epidemic prevention, administrated vehicles that passed in and out, and explained knowledge of epidemic prevention and control to others. Wang Yanti worked from 8:00 to 12:00 & 13:00 to 20:00 daily for epidemic prevention and control, “We need to send epidemic prevention and control records to our superior department. I have been working till 10pm and do not have super until I submit the epidemic prevention data,” said Wang Yanti with a smile.
When the pneumonia epidemic caused by the novel coronavirus got worse and worse, what people were most concerned about was to choose what to and to learn how to wear masks. Wang Siyi, a 2019 undergraduate student, utilized her skills as an English major, reviewing many official Chinese and English materials, and giving scientific explanations about the variety and methods of masks. The materials reviewed in previous days offered a lot of help to Wang Siyi who took for jobs about raw materials of masks. After doing further research, and fully understanding the raw materials and theories of masks, Wang Siyi engaged in searching for materials, managing to make masks at home. Wang Siyi and her family members posted on social media, took videos, and introduced the materials and sewing ways of masks to others.
On February 16th of 2020, a flight from Helsinki, Finland to Shanghai arrived at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
