CPE Short-term Metalworking Practice Successfully Ends

August 2, 2020

Since the beginning of July 6th, more than 5,000 students from School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Environment and Architecture, and School of Optical-electrical and Computer Engineering have finished their off-line metalworking projects such as lathe work, bench work, casting work and numerical control machinery work at the Center for Public Experiment.

This short-term practice has been carried out under the epidemic prevention and control. To ensure the quality of practice in metalworking, the Center for Public Experiments under the guidance of the Office of Academic Affairs, has strictly followed the the university’s requirements of students’ return to school and resumption of studies, revised the teaching plan 5 times, and optimized the teaching contents. Wth the help of the USST Youth League Committee, the Center for Public Experiments arranged volunteers to check each student’s temperature and sign-in registration; it is strictly required that each student wear a face mask throughout the class and that the venue be disinfected during the break. In order to control the number of students on the spot for practice, the number of students in each group was reduced from normally 35 to 17, so the number of training groups doubled and the workloads of teachers’ guidance increased exponentially. All training teachers were at work and all equipment for experiments was checked in advance to make sure that the equipment is in good condition. The teachers teaching casting work arrived at school at 4:00 a.m. every day, turned on the casting furnace and other training equipment ahead of time to ensure that its temperature must meet the requirements during class.

During the training period, Vice President Zhang Hua and some relevant people in charge of the Office of Academic Affairs went to the Center for Public Experiments to inspect the offline teaching of metalworking practice courses, providing some guidance on the overall plan of epidemic prevention and control and teaching work, and extending regards and thanks to those hard-working teachers who worked on the frontline and made their due contribution.
