The Opening Ceremony for Postgraduates of Grade 2020 Held

On the morning of Sep 16th, the opening ceremony for postgraduates of grade 2020 was held at main venue of auditorium, which was also simultaneously broadcasted live at other venues of schools. More than 3200 undergraduates got together to start their new journey at USST campus.

Wu Jianyong, Secretary of Party Committee of USST, addressed a speech at the opening ceremony. He pointed out that the world is going through changes of a kind unseen in a century, and a burgeoning round of technological revolution and industrial transformation has taken place. There is an urgent requirement to train an array of high-level talents for the party and country. How to create new prospects in the face of changing circumstances, stay up to date with times, integrate personal dream into Chinese dream are what new generations must face and consider. Young people have exhibited their undertakings and responsibilities while fighting against covid-19 pandemic. He put forwards ideas to all freshmen in three aspects: they should be overwhelmed with patriotism and ambitions to serve the country; they should involve in academic practice, enrich their knowledge and develop innovative creativity; they should value youth time and surge up young energies. Wu jianyong urged all freshmen that as a new USSTer, each man should bear in mind of school motto “Integrity, Righteous, Diligence, Love; Pondering, Learning, Aspiration, Ambition”, and embark on the new journey with extraordinary courage and indomitable will.

After the ceremony, USST President Ding Xiaodong taught freshmen the first lesson with a speech entitled “Embark on a New Journey at USST”. He outlined the historical origin and cultural heritage of USST. For over one hundred years, there have emerged a number of martyrs, outstanding alumni who inspire present students to strive ahead in the new era. Afterwards, he looked forward to the future campus construction, arousing students’ pride of being USSTers. At last, he encouraged students to translate the youth melody on such a young battlefield, and to be dream pursuers and achievers who can shoulder the responsibility of national rejuvenation.
