Director Jiang Inspected USST

At the end of September, Jiang Zhuoqing, Chairman of the Standing Committee of Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress and Secretary of the CPC Leadership Group came to USST to investigate and inspect the construction of medical-engineering cross-disciplinary innovation  system of USST that serves the development of Shanghai biomedical industry. Present at the inspection were such leaders from USST as Wu Jianyong, Secretary of the CPC of USST,  USST President Ding Xiaodong, Academician Zhuang Songlin and Vice President Liu Ping.

Chairman Jiang Zhuoqing first came to the high-end medical equipment demonstration hall of Advanced Manufacture Building, and then carried out an on-the-spot investigation of some scientific achievements such as our self-developed medical rehabilitation device, naked-eye 3D system, intelligent robots, and listened to the reports from some USST research staff.

At the meeting, Secretary Wu gave a report on USST’s active long-term connection with the national development strategy, serving local needs, and the demands of industries and enterprises, while making efforts to contribute to industrial progress, and local socio-economic development, and gave a detailed report on the features of the field of medical devices that USST has forged over the past century, the exploration of the medical-engineering innovative system as well as the continuous research and application in the field of the high-end equipment technology.

Chairman Jiang Zhuoqing also made a speech. He fully approved of USST’s innovative awareness to serve Shanghai’s biomedical industry actively as well as its remarkable achievements, pointing out that the university should integrate the natural gene of inter-disciplines into service industries and service guilds, and use the good foundation laid in the two featured orientations of “minimally invasive medical devices” and “rehabilitation medical devices” to give both more  vigor and more vitality. He emphasized that USST should focus on the promotion of the modernization of its governance system and governance ability, construct a system and mechanism conducive to the development of the medical industry, and break through the bottleneck of the “last leg” in the transformation of sci-tech achievements and industrialization;  USST should adhere to the strategy of talent-led development, and improve the mechanism of high-level research talents recruitment and cultivation, and create a first-class research team to lay out a solid foundation for the construction of a high-level collaborative innovation platform; make vigorous efforts to promote the transformation of sci-tech achievements, rapidly connect mature scientific research achievements with the industry that needs them urgently, provide continuous assistance to the coordinated development of economy, science & technology and human resources; continue to enhance the ability of the university to serve economic and social development, keep increasing added value of scientific innovation, and achieve mutual benefits and win-win results in the university-city interactions to make Shanghai’s biomedical industry  develop faster and better.
