The Second Hujiang International Young Scholars Forum-Systems Science Unveiled

On the morning of November 8, the second Shanghai International Young Scholars Forum kicked off at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology.

USST Vice President Wu Zhong introduced the guests present at the opening ceremony and extended a warm welcome to all the guests including experts and scholars. President Ding Xiaodong, in his speech, briefly introduced the long history of USST and its running situation in recent years. Especially over the past 40 years, under the care of Qian Xuesen and other older generations of scientists, and with the joint efforts of faculty and scientific researchers, excellent results have been made in the Systems Science focused on its disciplinary the development and talent training, and a strong team with great influence at home and abroad has been established, which has become an important “Southern Base” in this research field in China. President Ding pointed out that USST will further align with Shanghai’s strategy of building a global influential science and innovation center, implement the strategy of talents strengthening school, continue to promote the interdisciplinary development, and accelerate the connotative development of the school. He sincerely invites outstanding young scholars to USST to pursue their dreams.

Zhang Jifeng, director of the Institute of Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, pointed out in his speech that rich in its connotation,  Systems Science also brings many challenges. In recent years, the discipline of Systems Science has been developing rapidly. In 2005, the Institute of Systems Science and USST jointly established the Shanghai Institute of System Science where a large number of talents have been trained.

Jiang Ming, director of the Shanghai Educational Talent Exchange Service Center, pointed out that this forum is another special session after the "Optical Engineering" session in the first half of the year, which fully demonstrates the importance of Systems Science in Shanghai. At the same time, he said that the discipline of Systems Science of USST has played an important role in promoting the construction and governance of the country, which also proves the importance of talent training for this discipline. In order to become an outstanding global city, it is necessary for Shanghai to exploit a wide range of ways to attract talents from all over the world. It is hoped that USST can select talents through this forum, so as to accumulate energy for the prosperity and development of the university, Shanghai and relevant fields of the country.

After the opening ceremony, Guo Lei, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhu Daoli, Honorary President of the Sino-US Logistics Research Institute of Shanghai Jiaotong University, and David Rios Insua, Academician of the Royal Spanish Academy of Sciences delivered keynote speeches. The main forum was led by Professor Gao Yan, the leader of Systems Science of Business School. In the afternoon, three sub-forums on Modeling, Simulation and Optimization of Complex Systems, System Analysis Theory and Application, and optimization and Management of Urban Sustainable Transportation System were simultaneously held online.
