On Feb 1st, party members and related heads of USST went to Changxing Island of Chongming District for an investigation and carried out talks with leaders and heads of some department from Chongming District.
President Ding Xiaodong briefed USST on the history, discipline construction, talent cultivation, school-enterprise cooperation, and laid an emphasis on the high-level university construction while serving national and Shanghai’s strategic needs.

Li Zheng, party secretary of Chongming District, deputy director of management committee and director of development bureau of Changxing Island, believed that USST made due contributions to the development of Shanghai. Chongming District and USST faced similar and embraced important opportunities to serve national strategic development. Chongming District drew a blueprint of the fourteenth Five-Year development. It stepped up efforts in industrial agglomeration, promoted the green, digital and intelligent transformation, developed marine, innovative and service-oriented economy, forming a modern industrial system with marine equipment as the leading role, scientific and technological innovation as the support, and the integration of advanced manufacture, modern service industry. He hoped that both sides would strengthen the communication and cooperation in industrialization and industry-university-research, and complement each other’s advantages to achieve the development of higher quality.

Wu Jianyong, secretary of Party Committee of USST believed that the talks aimed to implement the spirit of important speeches of president Xi Jinping during his visit to Shanghai and the spirits of some latest conferences in Shanghai, and to serve the major needs of regional development of the Fourteenth Five-Year Plan. Centering on the development of industry, business and enterprise, USST tackled difficulties in scientific research and technologies. Focused on the construction of Shanghai Science and Technology Center and three strategic industries, USST laid out disciplines, talents cultivation and integration of industry, learning and research. Circling around the major needs of field cooperation, USST advanced and supported technological R&D.
