On February 18, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, wrote back to the New Fourth Army veterans,  hoping that they would continue to making contributions to the country by telling party's stories, glorious tradition and fine style of the CPC based on their own revolutionary experiences more often. On March 3rd, Wu Jianyong, Secretary of the Party Committee of USST, paid a visit to Comrade Ji Liping, a 100-year-old retired cadre of our university as well a veteran soilder of the New Fourth Army, and learned from the spirit shown in General Secretary Xi Jinping’s significant reply.
Ji Liping, a veteran soilder born in August, 1921, has just reached 100 years old. She joined the New Fourth Army in 1942 and then the Party in 1943, and experienced the seven consecutive  many major victories in Central Jiangsu during the War of Liberation. In 1956, she transferred to work in Shanghai's education system. From 1975 to 1984, she worked at Shanghai Institute of Mechanical Technology and there served as head of the Department of Organization from 1979 to 1984. Although Ji retired with honours more than 30 years ago, she has always been concerned about the growth and education of young students as well as the development of USST. Wu extended his cordial greetings to her and her family, presented flowers and paper sculptures on the theme of the 100th anniversary of the founding of CPC handmade by USST students najoring in printing arts. Wu also listened to the veteran soilder's  about the eventful revolutionary years and her unforgettable working experience at USST. Ji claimed excitedly that she was  touched and encouraged to learn that General Secretary Xi could take time out of his busy schedule to the veteran centenarians who joined in the New Fourth Army. Despite her old age, she expressed her wish that she would tey her best to make more contributions to the cause of the Party and the development of our country. At the same time, she added that she would tell the story about the party's glorious history so that the younger generation can understand the party's original mission better, modest and prudent, guard against arrogance and rashness, study hard and work well, and contribute to the cause of socialist modernization.
Wu said that the life of the veteran soilders of the New Fourth Army is a life of revolution and dedication. The revolutionary experiences and struggle stories of the veteran soilders  are the precious spiritual wealth  of our party and the vivid materials for party history learning and education. He expressed his sincere hope that while taking good care of her health,  Ji could tell younger generation about the struggle course of the party, educate and guide them to learn about the party history, and to love the party as well as our country while taking good care of her health. Under extremely rough conditions, the older generation won the victory. Also, the achievements of reform and opening up in the new era are also inseparable from the spirits of hard work and the fine traditional style. Our school will further learn the spirits mentioned by Xi’s reply, strengthen the education of the revolutionary tradition, inherit the red gene and carry forward the fighting spirits. Furthermore, it will encourage the party members, especially the young students to inherit and pass on the glorious traditions of the older generations.
