A Visit to USST Outstanding Alumnus Xu Kuangdi

On the morning of March 22th, Xu Kuangdi, an outstanding alumnus of USST, Vice-chairman of the national committee of the 10th CPPCC, and former President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Wu Jianyong, Secretary of Party Committee of USST, Ding Xiaodong, President of USST met in Shanghai.
During the meeting, Xu Kuangdi joyfully recalled the working experience when he was at USST, carefully listened to reports about the latest USST’s development, and thought highly of USST’s contributions to the talents cultivation, scientific research, social services and international education. He held a positive attitude towards empowering socio-economic development, enhancing disciplinary strength, generalizing disciplinary features, focusing on medical-engineering interdisciplinary technological innovation, ascertaining educational theory: the pursuit of teacher-student-centered and high-quality development. He warmly encouraged all faculty and students to march on with a pioneering spirit, which keeps making USST become a university for science and technology with distinctive features.
Wu and Ding introduced to Xu about school’s development, and sincerely thanked Xu for his support of USST’s development and improving social fames. Wu and Ding pointed out that the school is seizing the opportunity of high-level university construction and comprehensive educational reform. The school mapped the outline of the 14th Five-Year Plan, pushing ahead a higher-quality development to the expectation of alumni. On behalf of all faculty and students, Xu and Ding faithfully wished Xu Kuangdi good health, a pleasant life and expected him to often return to USST.
Others present included Chang Zhaohua, Professor of School of Medical Instrument and Food Engineering, Ph.D supervisor, and Director of the Shanghai Institute of Minimally Invasive Therapy MOE.

Xu Kuangdi, a steel metallurgy expert, worked as a teacher in department of metallurgy, Shanghai Institute of Mechanical Engineering from 1972 to 1979. In 2006, he was evaluated as an outstanding alumnus of USST. He acted as Deputy Secretary of CPC Committee, Shanghai, Mayor of Shanghai Municipal Government. In 2001, he assumed the office of secretary party leadership group of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Dean of Chinese Academy of Engineering. In 2003, he became Vice-chairman of the national committee of 10th CPPCC. By June of 2018, he won 6 awards including major science technology achievements awards at a national level, ministerial level and Shanghai Level; he won the Ho Leung Ho Lee Award and Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Prize.
