In the afternoon of September 18, the national finals of 2021 China College Student Engineering Practice and Innovation Ability Competition came to an end in Tsinghua University, along with the other 26 parallel sites ending the event simultaneously. In March, the group of three juniors from USST OECE, Wang Jiadong, Li Wenqiang and Cao Jinyi, was awarded the special prize for Smart Delivery Drone in “Smart+” section of Shanghai branch, whereby they advanced to the national finals held from September 16 to 18 and won the second place and the gold award with their solid theoretical foundation and practical skills as well as their strong mind.
The competition glory once again highlights the advanced concept of cultivating undergraduate innovation and entrepreneurship developed over the years by the faculty team led by academician Zhuang from USST School of Optical-electrical and Computer Engineering; it strengthens OECE’s incentive and reform of innovation and entrepreneurship practice education for college students, and fully reflects the preliminary results of OECE’s teaching for college students. OECE’s leadership and faculty team collaborate on the three core elements of USST’s cultivation and development of students, namely cultivation of morality, cultivation of talents and practical innovation. They keep on emphasizing “practice” and “innovation” based on theoretical study and engineering practice, enhancing the sense of social responsibility and mission of engineering students, guiding students to love the nation, benefit the people, be practical and hardworking, cultivating a new generation with comprehensive development of morality, intellect, physique, aesthetics and labor, who can take the responsibility of national rejuvenation, and providing strong support for USST to strengthen the cultivation of new engineering talents and innovation of engineering science. Finally, the achievement is also attributed to the care and cultivation from college departments, such as the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Public Experiment Center and the Engineering Training Center.
