Third Hujiang International Young Scholar Forum (Optical Engineering) Unveiled at USST

On October 23th, the 3rd Hujiang International Young Scholars Forum & Shanghai International Young Scholar Forums of Universities was unveiled at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology.

Hosted by Shanghai Municipal Education Talents Exchange and Service Center and Shanghai University Talents Work Union, and undertaken by USST, the forum drew young researchers of more than 10 countries and regions including America, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, Brazil, Singapore, Hongkong, and mainland. The forum adopted the online and offline .

Wang Qingyu, DIrector of the Dpeartment of Talents Work, Party Committee of Work on Education and Public Health of Shanghai addressed a speech. The speech made by Secretary Xi Jinping at the Central Committee Conference for Talents Work drew a new blueprint of talents strengthening country. China is in greater demand for talents than ever. The forum has acted as a significant measure for Shanghai education system to respond to the national strategy, introducing more talents in a more open, more pragmatic and more international way. The discipline of Optical Engineering owns an excellent faculty team, a strong scientific platform and a fine academic atmosphere in hopes of promoting the academic exchange, interdiscipline and collaboration.

On behalf of USST, President Ding extended warm welcome to guests and young researchers at home and abroad, and emphasized the history, disciplinary platform, teachers’ insurance and school campus. He pointed out that with the historical precipitation of 100 years, distinct regional advantages and beautiful school campus, USST is warmly welcomed by faculty and students. USST attached much importance to housing security, medical care and faculty children’s admission. He stressed that as a pilot unit of construction of high-level university, USST always gives high priority to the strategy of “talents strengthening school”, constantly focus on introducing, cultivating and gathering talents. He hoped that through this forum, more young researchers could learn, follow and join USST to pursue their dreams and do a part for the development of USST.

Zhuang Songlin briefed the content and the academic importance of the forum, and the development and vision of School of Optical-electrical and Computer Engineering. Finally, Dr. Deng Ganghua from the Ohio State University delivered a speech as a representative.

The forum is made up of one main forum and six sub-forums. The main forum invited Prof. Siddharth Ramachandran from Boston University and Ning Cunzheng from Tsinghua University to deliver keynote academic report online. Prof. Zhang Qiming from Institute of Photonic Chip and Prof. Zhan Qiwen from OECE made reports and carried out talks with young researchers online, followed by six sub-forums like Extreme Optical Manufacture, Terahertz Science and Technology, Photonics Chip Technology, Artificial-Intelligence Nanophotonics, Ultra-precision Optical Manufacturing, Ultrafast Nonlinear Optics, Precision Spectral Detection Technology in the afternoon.
