To ensure the convening of the 4th China International Import Expo (CIIE), implement the instructive spirits of General Secretary Xi Jinping to "strive for a world-class expo", and following the volunteer requirements of the CIIE Bureau, the Leading Group of Urban Security and the Epidemic Prevention Group, USST has actively organized student volunteers to show their youthful vigor at the front line of the Expo.

The year 2021 has witnessed a total of 118 volunteers from USST participating in various support work for the 4th CIIE; they are responsible for liaison, general reception and guidance, human resource and security, display and performing work for cultural exchange exhibition areas, etc. With their rigorous, meticulous and patient services, the volunteers fully demonstrated our nation’s hospitality, openness and self-confidence, as well as the city spirit and citizen image of Shanghai. Through the services and contributions to the Expo, the volunteers have enhanced social perception, promoted the sense of responsibility, increased their abilities and improved themselves a lot.

Chang Wanying from the School of Energy and Power Engineering is the only doctoral student among the CIIE volunteers of USST. After working out a proper schedule, Chang, a girl who has always been enthusiastic about volunteering, once more signed up for the CIIE volunteer to help more people. Qi Panpan from the School of Marxism is a docent at the Red Culture Theme Museum of Martyr Liu Zhan’en Former Residence. When talking about the volunteer experiences in the Expo, she expressed how much she has gained, "The voluntary work was exhausting but rewarding. Here I have found precious friendship, felt the spirit of our group, and, what’s more, realized how China is taking the responsibility for expanding openness and promoting world development during the Expo ."

On the morning of November 5, the first day of the 4th CIIE, USST President Ding Xiaodong, on behalf of USST leaders, went to the National Convention & Exhibition Center to pay a cordial visit to USST volunteers serving at the front line of the Expo; he encouraged them to cherish the valuable opportunity of volunteering, uphold the spirit of school motto--"Integrity, Righteousness, Diligence, Love, Pondering, Learning, Aspiration, Ambition", and implement the policies related to epidemic prevention and control while taking an active part in the voluntary service, so as to do a bit for the success of the 4th CIIE.
