Student Assistant Principal: Activate Students’ Participation in USST’s Governance

On December 3rd, at the Fuxing Road campus USST held its fifth teatime activity, which has become one of the brand activities organized by the Student Assistant principal. Focusing on the theme of talent cultivation, USST’s straight-A students were collected to offer their insights into the reform measures of the university. 

Established in 2019, the Student Assistant Principal builds a platform where students achieve all-rounded development, to promote the democratic governance of the university and highlight the students’ status in the modern university governance.

As early as its establishment, president Ding Xiaodong advised assistants how to perform their duties in the future. He encouraged the them to maintain young vigor, and the spirits of fearlessness and persistent struggle; to cherish the golden times they live in, and to be a person with the feeling of home and country; to keep both China’s top priorities and the world’s necessities in mind; to have faith in the truth, and make comprehensive studies and judgment; to enhance the awareness that the development should be put first; to view current situation from the long-term perspective and join hands with faculty and students to speed a high-level university construction.

Now, like the “junior adviser, young assistant and small bridge”, the Student Assistant Principal serves the growth of students and contributes to the development of the university. These assistants develop the enthusiasm and expertise to actively engage in the development of USST, important decision-making and the legitimate rights and interests of students. They undertake the research and provide advice for the high-level development of USST, striving to be responsible participants, to be practitioners in the democratic management of USST, to be the contact person between the leaders and students, and to be speakers for the legitimate rights and interests of students, so as to build USST into a first-class university for science and technology with distinctive features.

Growing up as well as serving the school development, every assistant principal reaps a lot. “As student assistants, we carefully choose research topics from concerns of school leaders and students, and do our duties as junior advisers. We conduct the research with questions, find solutions with ideas, analyze and solve problems regarding students’ interests, and learn to grow,” said by Huang, an assistant from the School of Health Sciences and Engineering.
