On July 13th, the final of the 16th China Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Science and Technology Competition for Students was held, with “Natural and Harmonious Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology” as its theme. After the preliminary selection, “A New Set of Thermochemical Absorption and Compression Compound High Temperature Heat Pump with Natural Refrigerant” submitted by Luo Changhao, Tou Yuefan and Zhao Baohan, three undergraduates from the School of Energy and Power Engineering of USST, successfully made it to the finals and won the first prize, their supervisors being Gao Peng and Wu Weidong.
Aimed at such problems as being high in drying costs and severe in pollution in China’s industrial high-temperature drying process, this entry, which has constructed a new thermochemical adsorption and compression compound high-temperature heat pump system using natural refrigerants, can efficiently recover and utilize waste heat ranging from 50 ℃ to 80 ℃ and produce high-temperature heat ranging from 100℃ to 130℃, actively responding to the national Comprehensive Work Plan for Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction for the “14th Five-Year Plan” Period, and help achieve the goals of carbon emissions peaking and carbon neutrality. This work can be used in industrial bases rich in waste heat resources such as steel and cement, thus achieving energy conservation and emission reduction.
The competition was jointly organized by the China Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Association and the Advisory Committee on Teaching Energy and Power to Majors in Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, and co-sponsored by Dunham Bush Limited (China). The preliminaries in six regions were hosted by six institutions of higher education, namely Tianjin University of Commerce, Southeast University, East China Jiaotong University, Guangdong University of Technology, Xi’an Polytechnic University and Harbin Institute of Technology, and the final round was hosted by Beijing University of Technology. There were a total of 175 teams from 117 colleges and universities participating in the preliminaries. Finally, 42 teams from 40 institutions, including Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong Universityand University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, emerged from their respective regions and entered the final defense session. After a series of fierce competitions, 12 teams won a first prize and the rest ones got a second prize.
The China Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Science and Technology Competition for Students has been successfully held for 16 times since its inception in 2007. The competition has been continuously broadening the research fields in refrigeration and air conditioning industry and mining outstanding talents to promote the development of the industry, and among those entries, many new works have emerged in line with the trend of energy conservation and emission reduction, helping the realization of goals of carbon emissions peaking and carbon neutrality. As a result, the alleged industry will never lack its follow-up force.
