From October 8 to 15, Zhao Ming, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Chief Accountant of USST, led a delegation to visit the Chinese Embassy in Saudi Arabia, Princess Nora Bint Abdulrahman University, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, and Huawei Innovation Center; participated in the Middle East Gulf Information Technology Exhibition 2024, and was invited to give a keynote speech at the Digital Education Roundtable Forum organized by Huawei. The visit aims to deepen the cooperation between our university and universities in the Arab region, and to learn and exchange the experience of universities in the two regions in the construction of smart campus and laboratory management. Relevant persons in charge of Academic Affairs Office, Informatization Office and Assets, Equipment and Laboratory Management Office accompanied the delegation.
Visiting the Saudi Embassy and Exploring New Opportunities for Cooperation in Saudi Higher Education
The delegation first visited our Embassy in Saudi Arabia and was warmly received by Counselor Luo Qing. Counselor Luo introduced the current development of Saudi society and the construction of higher education institutions, and provided the delegation with valuable suggestions. He pointed out that the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia is actively promoting economic diversification, social reform and international exchange and cooperation, which provides a broad space and opportunities for cooperation among universities.
At Nora Bint Princess Abdul Rahman University, the delegation met with staff from various schools and departments of the university, including the School of Computer Science and Information, the School of Engineering, the General Directorate of Digital Transformation, and the Department of International Cooperation, and carried out full exchanges on student management, student exchanges, international student cultivation, curriculum sharing, and scientific research cooperation, etc., and initially reached the cooperation intention of signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two universities.
Visit to King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and Discussion on Cooperation in Research Facilities Management
At King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), the delegation visited the university's Analytical Testing Center (ATC) and Micro-Nano-Processing Platform (MNP) and had in-depth exchanges with KAUST on the management of large-sized instruments, the construction of the ATC and the operation of the MNP. The two sides discussed topics such as equipment maintenance, budget planning, management team building, etc., and agreed that they need to continuously innovate and optimize the management of university research equipment to meet the needs of scientific research. Both sides expressed that they would strengthen communication and cooperation and jointly promote the improvement of research equipment management in universities.
Visiting Huawei Innovation Center in Abu Dhabi and Exploring New Opportunities for Intelligent Cooperation
On the fourth stop, the delegation was invited to visit Huawei Overseas Innovation Center in Abu Dhabi, where the technical supervisor, General Manager Li Yanlong, introduced Huawei's development history in the Middle East and the world in terms of cloud data and smart education. During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the construction of the university's smart campus and explored opportunities for cooperation between universities.
Participating in the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition and sharing our university's experience in smart campus construction
The last stop of the delegation was invited to participate in the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition 2024 in the Middle East. Zhao Ming introduced the university's successful experience in the construction of smart campus and demonstrated the university's achievements in promoting the construction of smart classrooms, the construction of OneNet Learning Platform and the research and development of personalized teaching functions with the help of the dual-wheel drive of “data + application scenarios”. Our delegation also held discussions and exchanges with the participating universities at home and abroad, and explored the modes and opportunities for subsequent inter-school cooperation. The sharing of USST's “Smart Campus” construction in large-scale international forums overseas will strongly promote USST's reputation and influence overseas, and expand the global partners to realize the sharing of resources in talent cultivation.
During this visit, our university not only strengthened its ties with universities and enterprises in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, but also promoted the cooperation between the two sides in the management of research facilities and the construction of smart campuses. In the future, the university will continue to uphold the concept of open and inclusive cooperation and promote strategic cooperation with international high-level universities.
