USST President Zhu Led A Aelegation to Germany and the United Kingdom to Promote International Exchange and Cooperation.

From May 18 to May 25, President Zhu Xinyuan led a delegation to Germany and the United Kingdom, and carried out a series of cooperation and exchange activities with the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, the Berlin School of Economics and Law, the Brandenburg Cottbus University of Technology, the Liverpool John Moores University, the Queen Mary University of London, and other universities and educational institutions. Relevant persons in charge of Academic Affairs Office, International Affairs Office, Sino-German College (SGC) and Sino-British College (SBC) accompanied the visit. The visit was based on the new requirements of high-quality development of Chinese-foreign cooperative education in the new era, and promoted USST to carry out high-level and substantive cooperative education with the world's leading universities and famous educational institutions.
During their visits in Germany, the delegation first visited Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, President Lohrentz and the program director hosted the Chinese guests. The two sides had an in-depth discussion on improving the quality of Sino-German joint educational program and international talent cultivation in the new situation, and signed a new round of cooperation supplemental agreement on joint program data protection. Zhu Xinyuan said that Shanghai-Hamburg International Engineering College is a major feature of internationalization of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, and hoped that in the future, it can continue to deepen the cooperation and exchange with the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, and jointly cultivate high-quality talents with international vision. Afterwards, the delegation, accompanied by Prof. Röther, the head of the German side of SGC, visited the Laboratory of Mechanical Engineering Production Technology and the Laboratory of Information and Electrical Engineering, and also visited the overseas semester students of Sino-German College of USST.

Afterwards, the delegation visited Berlin School of Economics and Law, where Rector Hermsdorf, Vice Rector Bustamante, Heads of the International Office and the Faculty of Mechanics received the delegation. The two universities signed the inter-university cooperation agreement for the first time in 2011 and have maintained the cooperation relationship since then, and during this visit the two universities renewed the agreement on student exchange program and had an in-depth discussion on future academic research and student exchange. Prof. Steinmann, who had once visited USST as a visiting professor, exchanged views with the delegation.

The delegation also visited Brandenburg Cottbus University of Technology, where Rector Grande and Vice Rector for International Affairs Berger led the relevant persons in charge to welcome the delegation. The two sides discussed how to deepen the long-term cooperation between the two universities and conducted in-depth exchanges on optimizing the mechanism of joint cultivation for the joint program of dual-master's degree and expanding the fields of scientific research cooperation, etc. The two sides also exchanged views with each other. The presidents of the two universities renewed the agreement for the existing dual-master's degree joint program, laying the foundation for future international cooperation and exchange in multiple fields at a deeper level.

During the period in the UK, the delegation first visited Liverpool John Moores University, where the Vice Chancellor and CEO Power and Pro Vice Chancellor Jones in charge of international affairs led the relevant persons in charge to host the visit warmly, and the two sides carried out in-depth exchanges and discussions on joint program, high-level projects, talent cultivation, teacher-student exchanges, and international summer school, etc. The two sides renewed the agreement on cooperation in running schools for dual-bachelor’s degree in mechanics and electronics, laying a good foundation for the future development of high-level master's and doctoral joint programs. Zhu Xinyuan said, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology and Liverpool John Moores University jointly opened two joint programs in 2006, which has a history of nearly 20 years and achieved fruitful results, and hope to continue to deepen the construction of the cooperative program and explore new directions of cooperative programs in the future, so as to inject new vitality and impetus into USST's international exchanges and cooperation. During the visit, Associate Dean for Global Affairs Pyne led the delegation to visit the Laboratory of Sports Science and the Laboratory of Engineering Department.

The delegation then visited Queen Mary University of London, where Vice Chancellor Bailey and relevant officials warmly received the delegation and both sides signed a memorandum of understanding. The two sides had an in-depth discussion on the cooperation of the “2+2” undergraduate study program with SBC. Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) is a public research university, one of the four core colleges of the University of London, a member of the Russell Group of Universities, and a member of the Southern Alliance for Science and Engineering.

 During the visit to Germany and the United Kingdom, the delegation also met with Lücking, the head of Sino-foreign cooperative education Section at Lübeck University of Applied Sciences in Germany, and Smith, the CEO of the Northern Consortium of Universities in the United Kingdom (NCUK), and had in-depth discussions on the achievements of the current stage of school running, the future mechanism of cooperation and exchanges and high-quality synergistic development, etc. 
In addition, the delegation also visited our alumni, visiting scholars and students in Germany and the UK. Zhu Xinyuan expressed his gratitude to the overseas alumni for their concern and support for the university's endeavors, encouraged students to bravely pursue their dreams, and wished them success in their studies and careers.
