The American Culture Centre (ACC) at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) is housed in a 3-storey historic building in the centre of the university campus in eastern Shanghai.  Originally designed by American architect Henry Killam Murphy in 1915, the building was renovated in 2008-2010 for use as a cultural centre.  The interior design consultant was an American architect living in Shanghai, Andrew Sigfrids.

The first floor was designed to have the look and feel of an American family home and includes a reception hall, living-room, parlor and reception room.  A small, semi-detached building includes a full American kitchen and dining area.  A second, small 2-storey semi-detached building includes a student-managed media studio.  The second floor of the main house includes a lecture hall that holds 30, an art gallery, a library and office space.

The third floor includes a conference room for 20 guests, with an interactive video system, and an administrative office. There is wireless internet access throughout the building.

All the public spaces in the centre are open to the public.

The ACC opened its doors on December 4th, 2010. Since then, it has continuously offered programmes like concerts, lectures, workshops, and short residencies to support its mission to promote understanding between China and the United States by creating opportunities for students, scholars, artists, and professionals to meet, exchange ideas and learn from each other. Since its opening, over 32,750 students, faculty, community members, student groups from neighboring public schools and universities, and international visitors have attended ACC public events and exhibits, either in situ on the USST campus, or at other sites on and off campus.

Although the primary audience for American Culture Centre events are USST students and faculty, ACC programmes are free and open to the public, advertised off campus, and benefit from the active participation of the larger Shanghai community.
