Recently, USST has been selected as one of the first construction units of National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Practice Base, and only three universities in Shanghai have the honor. In order to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education in institutions of higher education, strengthen the cultivation of innovation and entrepreneurship talents, and push forward mass entrepreneurship and innovation still further, the Ministry of Education launched the construction of 100 National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Practice Bases and 100 National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Colleges for the first time this year.
As one of the first Entrepreneurship Education Pilot Institutions in Shanghai, USST has won such honorary titles as "National Experimental School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Talent Cultivation Model", "National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Typical Experience University" and "National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform Demonstration University".
With innovation and entrepreneurship education taking the lead, USST actively pushes ahead the reform of education and teaching, and is one of the first institutions of higher education in China to explore the experimental class cultivation model of entrepreneurship and the mechanism of cultivating innovative and entrepreneurial talents by combining “point, line and plane", to implement the innovation and entrepreneurship assignment covering the whole process of four years of university and aiming at improving students' ability to solve complex engineering problems, as well as the teaching reform such as research project courses, honor courses and "Five Courses and One System". We have established a “four-in-one” innovation and entrepreneurship education system of classroom teaching, innovation practice, entrepreneurship cultivation and enterprise incubation, and set up more than 800 innovation and entrepreneurship training projects for our undergraduates every year, with a total of more than 15,000 students participating in the past five years. The university has won the national gold medal in the 5th and 6th China International College Students’ “internet +” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition respectively, and won more than 1,500 awards at the provincial or ministerial level or above in various academic competitions every year.
Taking this approval as an opportunity, the university, with the goal to build a first-class science and engineering university with distinctive features, is continuously deepening the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education and practical teaching, and commits itself to building a practice-oriented educational ecology with high starting points that integrates innovation and entrepreneurship education, research, practice and service, and strive to become a distinctive and influential base for training innovative and entrepreneurial talents.
