Recently, the final results of the Asian Design Annual Award (ADDA) were unveiled. The College of Communication and Art Design of USST won a gold award and a silver award in this competition for the first time since its involvement 20 years ago, with number of awards ranking first among Shanghai universities. Wang Zhen, a young teacher majoring in Environmental Design, won the gold award of "Urban Design" for "Futuristic Urbanism -the Freest Urban Polymer", and "Moonlight Catcher - Rest Station of the Midnight Soul" completed by Li Keyang, won the silver award of "Light and Space". Wang Zhenwas awarded as one of the outstanding instructors, and USST was awarded as one of the outstanding organizing and management unitsd by the Organizing Committee.
ADDA has become one of the most influential international competitions focused on the field of Environmental Design in Asia, which has been successfully held for consecutive 20 yearssince 2003. The competition is committed to building a wide-ranged, large-scale, influential, professional and authoritative design exchange event among universities in Asian countries and regions, which will turn intoan important platform for domestic and foreign institutions to evaluate the teaching level of related disciplines. In the past 20 years, under the framework of urban design, architecture, landscape, indoors, exhibition and luminous environment, ADDA has supported and motivatednew ideas, new technologies, new products and new services in the Asian urban and architectural industry from a global perspective, and promoted the internationalization and industrialization of design and education.
Based on the common laws and interdisciplinary features of the discipline of design, the Environmental Design major of the College of Communication and Art Design gives full play to the advantages of engineering, integrates artistic concepts, combines engineering and humanities, and employs big data and artificial intelligence to carry out original design teaching in the fields of urban and rural human settlement environmental protection renewal, spatial -visual image and perception, and environment and human health, forming the characteristics and advantages of talents training that organically integrates creative design and technological innovation. In line with the major national strategic needs such as ecological civilization, rural revitalization, and people's cities, a series of teaching construction has been under way and a perfect talent training model for design innovation has been shaped. The Gold Award and the Silver Award have made a historic breakthrough, and the effectiveness of exploring Environmental Design as a first-class undergraduate major construction and reform in Shanghai has begun to emerge.
