Computer Science Enters among Top 1% in ESI

In May of 2021, the latest Essential Science Indicators (ESI) shows that for the first time the discipline of computer science enters among top 1% in ESI, becoming the fourth discipline after the discipline of engineering science, materials science, chemical science to do so from USST.
Since the initiation of the 13th Five-Year Plan, having seized the opportunity of a local high-level university construction，USST upgrades disciplinary layout, highlights the disciplinary features and strength, docks the frontier demands of Shanghai socio-economic development, making remarkable achievements in the overall conditions of the discipline. Year 2021 is the opening of the 14th Five-Year Plan, the discipline of computer science enters among top 1% in ESI, meaning that its international academic influence keeps climbing. Circling around national and Shanghai’s major industrial area, meeting the reform purpose during the period of the 14th Five-Year Plan, USST furthers characteristic development path of major discipline, strengthens the foundation disciplinary construction, prioritizing and improving the coordinative development pattern of major discipline and underlying subject, making a stride to build a high-level university of science and technology.
ESI is an econometric analysis database based on the ISI citation index database SCI and SSCI. ESI is an authoritative retrieval tool for collecting and reflecting citations of papers in major disciplines in the world. ESI has become an important tool for evaluating the international academic level and influence of universities, academic institutions, and even countries and regions. Entering among top 1% in ESI reflects the paper quality and academic competitiveness of scientific research institutions of universities.
