USST Reaps a Number of Shanghai Science and Technology Awards 2020

Lately, Shanghai Science and Technology Awards 2020 have been unveiled. USST has reaped 9 awards in total, ranking its best in history, and renewing its record in terms of number and quality of awards.
Of the 9 award-winning items, USST has won two first awards, four second awards, and one third award as the launching unit; and one first award with its faculty member as a participant.
Zhu Yiming has won the Outstanding Contribution Award in Science and Technology for Shanghai Youth, breaking the record in USST’s history in this category. He is also the only young scientist who has reaped this special honor in the municipal universities in 2021.
“All Optical Fiber Time Domain Terahertz Spectrum Technology and Application” completed by Prof. Zhu Yiming’s team has won a first award at Shanghai Technology Invention Awards.
Aiming at the prominent problem that the core components of high-performance terahertz spectrometer depend heavily on import, Prof. Zhu’s project has made many breakthroughs in key technologies, including terahertz source, terahertz functional devices, terahertz detection, and weak signal amplification and acquisition. By adopting the whole chain research and development mode from devices, components, whole machines to application as the axis, the high-performance terahertz spectrometer and its key components, Prof. Zhu’s project has developed and popularized the use of the high-performance terahertz spectrometer and its key components that can replace its imported counterparts. All fiber time domain terahertz spectroscopy technology and its related derivatives have been applied to the fields of national defense and military, environmental detection, public security, science, education, culture, health and the like, and achieved significant social and economic benefits.
“Key Technology and Application of Highly Active Lactobacillus Starter Culture” completed by Prof. Ai Lianzhong’s team has carried away the first award at Shanghai Technology Invention Awards.
Aiming at the unclear functional mechanism of lactic acid bacteria starter of our country, and targeting accurately at bottleneck problems such as the lack of filtrating technology, efficient preparation and production technology and applied technology, as well as the lack of key manufacturing equipment, the project has analyzed and solved the functional mechanism of lactic acid bacteria, invented the precisely-targeted filtrating technology of genomics and molecular mechanism of lactic acid bacteria, and obtained functionally-clear lactic acid bacteria. It has invented the critical technologies for efficient preparation and production of lactic acid bacteria starter, and invented a new type of lactic acid bacteria fermented food. The overall level of the project has reached international advanced level, and the research results have already been applied to industry, breaking foreign monopoly on the variety of lactic acid bacteria starter and key technologies of preparation and production equipment for our country, enhancing the core competitiveness of the enterprises, and exerting a significant and far-reaching influence upon the promotion of the scientific and technological progress and healthy development of the industry.
"Control mechanism and enhancement method of the phase change of gas hydrate into heat storage and transmission”, carried out by Prof. Liu Daoping’s research team, has harvested the second award at Shanghai Natural Science Awards; “Theory and Method of Hydrogen Production from Biomass Raw Materials by Continuous Adsorption and Enhancement of Chemical Chain Steam Reforming”, conducted by Prof. Dou Binlin’s research team, has won the second award at Shanghai Natural Science Awards; “Research and Development and Application of Key Technologies of Low-field Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Analyzer”, completed by Prof. Nie Shengdong’s research team, has taken away the second award at Shanghai Technology Invention Awards. “Superhard Nanocomposite Coating Materials and Key Technologies and Its Industrial Application in Tools”, conducted by Prof. Li Wei’s research team, has won the second award at Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Awards; “ Innovation and Application of Domestically Produced Structure and Design of Tubing Heat Exchanger”, carried out by Associate Prof. Ouyang Xinping’ research team, has won the third award at Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Awards.
“Research and Industrialization of Key Technologies of High-speed and Efficient Brushless Motor System for Handheld Lithium Electric Tools”, completed under the cooperation of Prof. Xia Kun and Shanghai Power Tools Research Institute (Group) Co., Ltd.,etc., has won the third award at Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Awards.
The nine awards won by USST demonstrate the outstanding achievements in the construction of a high-level local university. The number of first awards with our university as the launching unit ranks first among the municipal universities in Shanghai. It is also the first time in the history of USST that we have won two first awards in Shanghai Technology Invention Awards in the same year, and it is the first time that we have won the Outstanding Contribution Award in Science and Technology for Shanghai Youth.
