Next to Zhanen Avenue of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, there is an old building with red bricks and white windows. Liu zhanen, the first Chinese President of University of Shanghai, a famous modern Chinese educator and patriot, once lived here for ten years. After more than a year, the former residence of the martyr Liu zhanen, built by the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, reopened on June 26.
Here, former president Liu zhanen pursued excellence and innovation, and transformed University of Shanghai from a “University in China” to a “Chinese University”. It was also here that he positively supported the anti-Japanese national united front of the Chinese Communist Party and actively explored the way to save the country through education, thus constructing an immortal spiritual monument.
On the 1st floor of exhibition hall, it can also be seen the integration of major events and important characters, cultural context, landmarks and other elements along the historical course of the University, which artistically interprets the stories of generations of people from University of Shanghai for Science and Technology serving their country.
“Martyr Liu zhanen’s former residence is the carrier of collective memory, and we should learn from the past and chase innovation in the future. What’s more, here is a spiritual guide to provide inspiration and motivation for the future,” said Wu Jianyong, Secretary of the Party Committee of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology.
After the opening ceremony, the exhibition hall of martyr Liu zhanen’s former residence will be open to the public. It will be a classroom for the first lesson after new comers and the last lesson before students’ graduation, and it will also be a spiritual home for alumni to review the history of the school and draw enormous strength here.
