The University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) is a municipal multidisciplinary key applied research-oriented university with engineering as its core, where engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law, art and other disciplines are well in coordinated development. USST comprises schools and a department that offer bachelor and postgraduate programs, programs for adults and programs for overseas students. ☆School of Energy and Power Engineering
The School of Energy and Power Engineering (SEPE) is one of the important academic institutions engaged in talent training and scientific research in the fields of energy and power at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST). In the 1910s, the University set up the Department of Steam Engine and Internal Combustion Engine. In the 1920s, the Department of Mechanics and Electrics was set up. In the 1930s, the Department of Mechanics and Electronics opened courses on the steam engine, gas engine, water conservancy engine, and other courses that were related to energy and power engineering. In the 1950s, majors in boiler manufacturing and steam turbine manufacturing were set up. In 1960, the Department of Power Mechanical Engineering was established, which was the former name of SEPE. In September 1986, the School of Power Engineering was established with the approval of the Ministry of Machinery Industry (former). In December 2008, it was renamed as SEPE.
The development process of School of Energy and Power Engineering at USST
At present, SEPE has the post-doctoral research mobile station of Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics. Besides that, SEPE also has discipline authorized to offer doctoral degree program in Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics. SEPE has six doctoral programs of secondary disciplines. They are Thermal Energy Engineering, Refrigeration and Cryogenic Engineering, Power Machinery and Engineering, Engineering Thermophysics, Fluid Machinery and Engineering, and Chemical Process Machinery. With the major of Fluid Mechanics and the six majors mentioned above, SEPE has seven master programs and one engineering master program in Power Engineering. The discipline authorized to offer doctoral degree program in Power Engineering and Engineering is the key discipline of Shanghai in Period I. The secondary discipline doctoral programs of Refrigeration and Cryogenic Engineering are Shanghai's key discipline in Periods II and III. The majors of Power Machinery and Engineering and Refrigeration and Cryogenic Engineering are key disciplines of the Shanghai Education Commission.
Amazing research projects: online measurement of flow field in complex flow channel of impeller machinery
SEPE has distinctive research characteristics in the fields of energy and power equipment manufacturing technology, large-scale power station boilers, particle and two-phase flow online measurement technology, clean combustion, internal flow rules of power machinery, environmentally friendly refrigerants, low-temperature biomedicine, freeze-drying of food and medicine, refrigeration low-temperature devices for special purposes, high-efficiency heat exchanger, computational fluid dynamics and heat transfer, micro-nano preparation, and the relevant applications. SEPE undertakes more than 100 projects such as 973 Program, 863 Program, National Science and Technology Support Projects, Key Projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China, General Projects, more than 200 provincial and ministerial projects, and more than 600 enterprise government-sponsored institution projects. SEPE has won more than 90 national, provincial and ministerial awards, such as the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the second prize of the National Natural Science Award, and the first prize of Shanghai Technology Invention. “The Fundamental of Turbine Aerodynamics” won the National Excellent Textbook Special Award. “Cryogenic Biomedical Technology” won the second prize of National University Teaching Achievement. Apart from that, SEPE won over 30 teaching achievement awards such as the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Nomination Award, Shanghai Excellent Doctoral Dissertation, and Shanghai Excellent Textbook First Prize.

Undergraduate students and graduate students obtained their degree
More than 280 doctoral and master students and 350 undergraduates enroll in SEPE every year. SEPE sets up three undergraduate majors for the undergraduate programs, including Energy and Power Engineering, Process Equipment and Control Engineering, and Renewable Energy Science and Technology. Among them, Renewable Energy Science and Technology is one of China's first batch of undergraduate majors in China's strategic emerging industries, and Thermal Energy and Power Engineering is a national specialty construction site and a teaching highland construction site in Shanghai. SEPE also has corporation programs with universities in France, Germany, Japan, etc. Every year, SEPE will support outstanding students to study abroad in foreign universities and accepts foreign Ph.D., master, and undergraduate students to study in SEPE.
