USST Awarded Shanghai’s Key Construction Project of the Modern Industrial College

Recently, the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization  has officially released the list of the first batch of municipal key modern industrial colleges, and USST’s Medicine-Engineering Modern Industrial College is selected as one of the first batches of construction projects after a defense, an evaluation, a field inspection and the like.

The construction of modern industrial colleges is a strategic layout of new engineering construction. The key task lies in providing high-quality talent support for national and regional economic development, expanding new space, adding new vitality and cultivating new momentums for high-quality economic development through “Six Focuses and One Service” (focusing on majors, focusing on the curriculum, focusing on the teaching materials, focusing on technology, focusing on practice, focusing on teachers and serving the cultivation of well-qualified and high-quality application-oriented talents) if we aim to explore a new path for higher institutions of education to serve national and regional development, a new path for the reform of their organizational mode, and a new path for the characteristic training of application-oriented talents.

In recent years, higher institutions of education in China have attached great importance to the construction of modern industrial colleges, and have been committed to the cultivation of high-quality applied, inter-disciplinary and innovative talents who can both adapt to and lead the development of modern industries, solidly promoting the in-depth construction of new engineering disciplines. Based on the three National First-class Undergraduate Majors of Photoelectric Information Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Mechanical Design & Manufacturing and Automation, all under “Double Ten Thousand Plan”(Ten Thousand National First-class Undergraduate Majors and Ten Thousand Provincial-level First-class Undergraduate Majors), USST has cooperated with more than 10 units such as Shanghai Shenkang Hospital Development Center and United Imaging to jointly build a modern industrial college. USST is committed to aiming at the integration with local economic and social development, breaking through the dependence upon the traditional path, exploring the mechanism which can effectively connect the industry chain, innovation chain and education chain, establishing a new mechanism which permits the share of information, talents, technology and material resources, improving the mechanism of coordinating the integration of industry and education in talent cultivation, innovating the mechanism of evaluation and recruitment of part-time teachers from enterprises, building a mechanism of linkage development between higher education and industrial clusters, creating a number of exemplary talent cultivation entities integrating talent cultivation, scientific research, technological innovation, enterprise service and student entrepreneurship, and providing a new model that can be replicated and promoted for the construction of applied colleges and universities.
