USST and STA Signed An Agreement to Jointly Build "Two Institutes and Three Centers"

On November 26, Shanghai University of Science and Technology (USST) and Shanghai Theater Academy (STA) signed an agreement on promoting the innovation and integrated development of science and art at STA Huashan Road Campus.

Wu Jianyong, Secretary of the Party Committee of USST, pointed out in his speech that USST and STA have their own advantages in their respective fields. He stressed that the agreement focused on the integration of science and art and both sides should strive to achieve new breakthroughs in interdisciplinary talent training, joint construction of key research centers, construction of interdisciplinary innovation research institutes, and interdisciplinary high-level talent exchange.

Xie Wei, Secretary of the Party Committee of STA, pointed out in his speech that STA would explore the program of the integration of science and art and list the program in STA's "14th  Five Year Plan", and would prioritize the innovative integration of science and art as one of the important development directions of STA. Xie Wei also said that he looked forward to cooperating with USST to explore innovative approaches to the construction of new liberal arts disciplines in an liberal arts academy.

In the future, both universities will focus on the interdisciplinary development requirements of science and art, explore a feasible path for their integration, strive to become the leading explorer and innovator of the construction of new engineering and new liberal arts disciplines and contribute wisdom and strength to make Shanghai a science and technology innovation center and international cultural metropolis.

On behalf of both sides, President Ding Xiaodong from USST and President Huang Changyong from STA signed the cooperation agreement and unveiled the "two Institutes and three Centers" which include "Science and Art Integration Research Institute" and "Science and Art Integration Innovation Institute".

Jin Lei, deputy director of Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, expressed his congratulations on the inauguration of "two Institutes and three Centers" for science and art integration. He pointed out that the joint efforts of both universities will boost the art development by scientific and technological innovation and promote the science and technology development with artistic sublimation. The cooperation program is an innovative way to implement and serve the national strategy and practice "improving urban soft power and enhancing hard power". It is hoped that both sides will cooperate sincerely and work together to create a better future.

Jiang Hong, inspector of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, spoke highly of the cooperation program. He expects that, through the cooperation, the original integration achievements with core technical value will be produced, and both sides will strive to build an integrated interdisciplinary innovation ecosystem and become a model of discipline integration.

At the following Science and Art Integration and Innovation forum, Lou Yongqi, Vice President and Dean of College of Design and Innovation of Tongji University, and Alexander Fabian Brandt, a well-known artist, delivered their keynote speeches.

In the future, both universities will continue to focus on serving the national innovation and development strategy, meet the needs of Shanghai urban development, and make joint effort to promote the integration and innovation of science and art.
