USST Participated in the Annual Meeting of Shanghai-Hong Kong University Alliance 2021

On December 22, the annual meeting and exchange symposium of Shanghai-Hong Kong University Alliance 2021 was held online.

At the opening ceremony, alliance members proposed that the Shanghai-Hong Kong University Alliance should focus on the overall situation, establish a high-quality talent cultivation system and serve the national and regional development. It should deepen cooperation, build a high-level collaborative innovation platform, and achieve a high level of scientific and technological self-reliance and self-improvement; it should strengthen exchanges between Hong Kong and Shanghai, bring into full play the advantages of education, cultivate talents with national sentiments, and contribute to the realization of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

The followed Council meeting summarized the work of the summer school, internship program and the construction of excellent national condition courses in Shanghai-Hong Kong University Alliance in 2021. As one of the members of Shanghai-Hong Kong University Alliance, two courses of USST, "the Book of Songs and Chinese Poetry Education" and "Learning Entrepreneurship by Knowing and Doing", were shortlisted for the construction of excellent national condition courses of Shanghai-Hong Kong University Alliance. In terms of high quality educational resources sharing among universities in the Shanghai-Hong Kong University Alliance, 10 USST students were qualified to attend the summer international courses of Fudan University for free. After that, all the members of Shanghai-Hong Kong Alliance considered and passed the arrangement of the 3rd Shanghai-Hong Kong Alliance Council Chairman and Vice Chairman. Hong Kong Baptist University takes the place of the third council chairman, and the vice chairmen are Tongji University in Shanghai and Lingnan University in Hong Kong.

During the exchange symposium, YANG Jiong, Director of the USST Mental Health Education and Counseling,  gave a presentation titled "The Growth of Pony 98 during the Epidemic", in which she introduced the growth story of the student psychological peer group of USST during the epidemic in terms of self-education, self-management and self-service.

During the two years of the pandemic, altogether 213 mental education activities were held, including 88 online and 125 offline, which have witnessed more than 70,000 participants joining in and over 500 articles reporting the events. Among the outstanding members from “Pony” club, some were awarded the National Top 100 Psychological Commissioners, and some won prizes in Shanghai University Psychological Commissioner Skills Competition. Owing to the efforts made by “Pony” club, USST won the 2020 Shanghai School Advanced Group of Anti-pandemic Psychological Education, for the first time ascending on the list of the Shanghai University Mental Health Education and Counseling Demonstration Center. Meanwhile, “Pony”, as the only psychology-related one, was included in 2021 Top 100 National University Student Associations, which marked its major breakthrough after considerable collective efforts.

The Shanghai-Hong Kong University Alliance was established on November 6, 2018, which consists of eight universities in Shanghai and eight universities in Hong Kong, and USST is one of the members of the Alliance. The other members are Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tongji University, East China Normal University, Shanghai University, Shanghai Normal University, East China University of Political Science and Law, University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong University of Education, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Lingnan University, Hong Kong Baptist University and City University of Hong Kong. The Alliance aims to strengthen the exchange and cooperation between the universities of the two cities in the fields of talent cultivation and scientific research, and is committed to achieving mutual benefits, win-win goal and collaborative innovation between the universities in Shanghai and Hong Kong, and to create another chapter of cooperation between Shanghai and Hong Kong.
