On 5, March, the inauguration ceremony of the Strategic Development Advisory Committee (SDAC) of the Management School and its first committee meeting were held in our university auditorium. A number of academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), experts and scholars in the management field, and industry leaders have been selected as members of SDAC. By giving full play to their roles of "think tanks", they will jointly chart a promising course for the Business School, and push forward the high-quality development of education in the new stage.
Present at the meeting were Yang Shanlin, academician of the CAE, President Ding Xiaodong, Vice President Sheng Chun, all members of SDAC, academic and administrative leaders from the Management School, leaders of administration from relevant departments of our University, and representatives of the faculty. The inaugural ceremony was presided by Sheng Chun.
Zhao Laijun, dean of the Business School, gave his speech about the decision to establish SDAC. President Ding and academician Yang Shanlin jointly launched the inauguration ceremony of the Committee. President Ding also presented the letters of appointment to all members of SDAC.
Academician Yang began his speech by thanking the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) for its invitation and expressing his willingness to honor his duty as the director of SDAC and contribute his due part to the development of the Management School. At the same time, he also pointed out that USST should chart a clear course for its development, have a profound understanding of current affairs and formulate detailed plans for the future. He also emphasized that we should put our energy and attention on talent cultivation and research in science and technology for our country.
President Ding briefed all participants the history and past achievements of USST. President Ding also pointed out that the management disciplines are pillars of USST, and that we should integrate engineering and management disciplines and play a stronger role in the production-oriented service industry by cultivating management talents. President Ding also expressed his hope that the experts would leverage their strengths to elevate the development of the Management School to a higher level, so as to better serve the social and economic development of Shanghai.
At the end of the ceremony, Academician Yang put forward three guiding suggestions for the development of the Business School: first, to take concrete actions to strike a balance between the present and the future and forward-looking insights; second, to fathom the effect of latest developments in science and technology and to enhance trans-disciplinary integration and development; third, to serve the national development strategy by integrating the academic development with the economic and social needs.
