British Cultural Centre Introduction

英国中心于2011年10月29日成立，主题定为“英伦之光”

英国中心设计成为英国文化、科学和技术之窗以及中英文化交流的国际平台

展示英国的教育、科技、文化、民俗、风情等，为学生提供近距离感受英国文化的机会。

The British Cultural Centre (BCC) was constructed on 29^th October 2011; and designed by Crawford Mackenzie, a famous British architect, in a classic British style.

The theme of the BCC has been defined as “The Light of Britain”; acting as a window into British culture, science and technology and to perform as an international platform for Sino-British cultural exchange. Its vision is to demonstrate the education, science and technology, culture, and customs of the UK, as well as offer students career and professional guidance for their future working lives.

英国中心一楼是典型的英伦风格的大厅及会客室，用于举办会议和学生活动。
经由威尔士风情的厨房可到达二楼的展览厅。
The ground floor regularly hosts meetings for visiting guests and faculty members, as well as social events, such as student activities and parties.
There is also an exhibition room on the first floor, via the Welsh kitchen, which is used for the BCC’s art and culture exhibitions.

中心二楼图书馆提供原版英文书籍、报刊与杂志以便来访师生借阅，帮助访者充分了解英国的艺术，科技，文化和风土人情； 同时，二楼也提供自习室来为学生们营造宁静的学习环境。

Original English magazines, books and CDs are available from the library on the first floor, which offers visitors the chance to learn about authentic British art, science, culture and customs. The first floor also houses a quiet study area for students.

三楼多功能厅用于举办各类学术交流活动。墙上还有我校学生手工制作的海报，营造温暖和多彩的氛围。

A multi-functional room and converted loft on the second floor is regularly used for lectures and interactive activities, and has been decorated in part by hand-painted posters from our USST students, making for a warm and colourful environment!

英国中心主要活动介绍
British Cultural Centre Events

英国中心主要活动分为常规活动和特色活动，常规活动有英语漫谈和英伦午后时光，以及这学期开始的BCC咨询室及压力管理驿站活动，特色活动包括青年企业家就业指导讲座，以及每学期举办的画展和摄影展等。

BCC activities include regular ‘Business Professionals Lectures’, offering careers guidance and professional skills training; the ‘BCC Advice Session & Stress Management Station’, offering stress management techniques and mentoring to staff and students; plus regular social events and themed-parties, with our well-attended Tuesday Chinwag, Thursday Tiffin Time; twice-yearly exhibitions, reading club and other social gatherings.

此外，每年上半年，英国中心会迎来来自英国考文垂大学和英国利物浦约翰摩尔大学师生到我校进行为期两周的校际交流活动。

在此期间，英国文化交流中心准备了欢迎会、各类讲座活动、实验室参观以及学术交流活动，从而在学术交流与文化交流两方面帮助英国师生充分了解我校工程类学科建设情况以及中国传统文化。

In the first half of the new year, the BCC hosts students from Coventry University and Liverpool John Moores University, who visit USST as part of our inter-collegiate exchange programmes.

To help them experience authentic Chinese culture and pursue academic and developmental projects with their USST Engineering College counterparts, the BCC arranges a wide range of activities, including welcome parties, cross-cultural exchange, company visits, academic lectures, talks, and sightseeing tours in Shanghai.

英国文化交流中心的目的之一就是为学生们提供家一般的场所，举办有趣的教育意义的活动，帮助学生培养国际化的视野，发展适应社会和服务社会的技能。

One of the BCC’s main aims is to provide a home-away-from-home for students on campus; offer fun, informative and educational activities, with an emphasis on helping students develop a broader understanding of the world around them; and hone skills with which they can both contribute to and engage in society, as well as much-needed social interaction.
