Recently, the Ministry of Education issued the "Decision on the 2019 Awards for Outstanding Achievements (Science and Technology) in Scientific Research in Institutions of Higher Learning". Under the leadership of Professor Yu Hongliu from the Institute of Rehabilitation Engineering and Technology of our school, the team completed the scientific research "Key Technology and Application of Intelligent Bionic Device for Reconstruction of Human Hand Function" and won the second prize of Technology Invention Award.
After nearly 10-year research, Professor Yu Hongliu's team has conquered several key common technological difficulties of human wearable hand function reconstruction devices, such as electromyographic bionic prosthetic hand and exoskeleton rehabilitation prosthetic hand, and developed a series of innovative myo-electric bionic hand and rehabilitation hand products, which have significantly improved the technical level of electromyographic bionic prosthetics and rehabilitation in China. Specifically, the high-performance electromyographic prosthetic hand has achieved technological transformation and upgrading results. In the past 3 years, this series of products has accumulated a direct output value of more than 46 million yuan, and the output value of assembly services is about 150 million yuan. The market share of related products ranks first in China and they have been exported overseas, with millions of potential patient users and significant social and economic benefits. Jiangsu Danyang Artificial Limb Co., Ltd., the project's participatory unit, has thus become the leading unit for the manufacturing of electromyography prosthetics in China.
The award for outstanding achievement in scientific research (science and technology) in institutions of higher learning is an award set up by the Ministry of Education to encourage teachers of higher education to carry out scientific and technological innovation and achievement transformation around national strategic needs and social and economic development needs and to promote the cultivation of innovative talents in colleges and universities. The Award consists of Natural Science and Technology Award, Science and Technology Progress Award and Youth Scientist Award.
