USST-led High-end Medical Equipment Innovation Center Ranks No.1 in Shanghai’s Special Assessment

Recently, Shanghai Economy and Informatization Commission (SHEITC) has released the assessment results of Shanghai Manufacturing Innovation Center, and the USST-led High-end Medical Equipment Innovation Center is rated “Excellent”, ranking first in the assessment of Shanghai Manufacturing Innovation Center in 2021. The assessment was organized by the SHEITC to assess the construction and operation of each participating innovation center since its approval, including the completion of the construction objectives and construction contents, technology spillover mode, public service level, sustainable development and the promotion of industry development. When undergoing the review and on-site assessment of the materials, the Shanghai High-end Medical Equipment Innovation Centre was unanimously recognized and highly recommended by the assessment experts for its achievements in such aspects as pivotal positioning, collaborative innovation and market-oriented operation.
In 2020, with the strong support and guidance of SHEITC, USST, together with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology(the Chinese Academy of Sciences), SIMIC Holdings Co., Ltd. (SIMIC Holdings) and seven other universities, research institutions and leading enterprises with great strength in the field of biomedicine, jointly applied for the establishment of the High-end Medical Equipment Innovation Center (hereinafter referred to as “the Center”), the only Shanghai city’s innovation platform for the purpose of medical device key common technology research and development, which was later approved.  
So far the medical equipment innovation system built by the Center has been running well; more than 200 cooperative research projects have been carried out, and quite a number of key medicine-engineering interdisciplinary projects have been screened out. Complete sets of equipment such as surgical suture needles, ultrasonic knives and high-frequency electric knives have been widely acclaimed in clinical trials. In terms of personnel training, with the support of the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Medicine and Engineering to carry out high-end inter-disciplinary personnel training, explore the construction of personnel training system, strengthen the joint training funding plan and its process management, safeguarding the promotion of the excellent interdisciplinary medicine-engineering personnel training system. Currently, more than 800 graduate and undergraduate students have participated in the interdisciplinary program of medicine and engineering.
