National Food Industry (Urban Grain and Oil Security) Technology Innovation Center Approved

On May 24, 2021 National Food and Strategic Reserve Science and Technology Week was launched in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. Three Technology Innovation Centers awarded this time were led by the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, China Agricultural University, and Henan University of Technology respectively. Among them, the National Food Industry (Urban Grain and Oil Security) Technology Innovation Center was led by USST, and On behalf of USST, Guan Xiao, Assistant Dean of the School of Medical Instrument and Food Engineering, attended the opening ceremony.
Sun Yuedong, Deputy Secretary of Party committee of USST, led a team to participate in the relevant activities, and respectively visited Zhai Jianglin, Chief Engineer of National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, and Yin Ou, Deputy Secretary of Shanghai Municipal Development & Reform Commission and Director of  Shanghai Municipal Food and Strategic Reserves Administration. Zhai Jianglin hopes that the establishment of the center in USST will be a pioneer in Shanghai and then play a leading role across the whole country. Yinou has put forward suggestions for the further development, hoping that USST will produce more fruits for regional construction through improving communication and cooperation with industry authorities, food enterprises, scientific research institutes and etc. Expressing the gratitude to the national and Shanghai authorities for their concern and support, Sun Yuedong said that USST will take the center establishment as an opportunity to address key issues in the grain field as well as the commercialization of results, so as to make positive contributions to the country’s food industry.
Since the beginning of 2019, USST has actively begun its application work, jointly building the center by cooperating with Academy of National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, Shanghai Liangyou (Group) Co., Ltd., and CAS Center for Excellence in Molecular Plant Sciences. The center is a new scientific research platform for the food discipline of USST after the Shanghai Engineering Technology Research Center of Food Microbiology and the Shanghai Engineering Technology Research Center of Food Rapid Testing, which will play a positive role in the origination of the food discipline and the social impact of USST.
